All-Party Parliamentary Group for Snooker applauds WPBSA Constitutional Changes

The Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Snooker, Lincoln MP Karl McCartney has praised the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association and its members for adopting changes to the body’s constitution.

WPBSA is the global governing body of snooker from grassroots to the World Snooker Tour.

The changes, adopted unanimously at an Extraordinary General Meeting held yesterday (25 November), reflect a thorough governance review of the international sporting body and ensure the continued development in line with global sporting best practice.  With an additional players’ body created, there will be greater representation from those who play, as well as additional flexibility within the body to develop the game.

On hearing the news, Karl McCartney said: “WPBSA and its members are to be applauded for their commitment to ongoing good governance.  Changes to an organisation’s constitution are never easy but a unanimous vote by WPBSA members to adopt these changes not only demonstrates how much people believe in the direction of the sport and its leadership, but that by working together to devise a new way of operating, everybody had a voice and everybody is on board.

“Whilst this is a process that started some time ago, the current situation highlights the need for organisations with a global reach to adapt, and ensure they can face up to any adversity and take advantage of opportunities as they might appear.  I look forward to seeing the WPBSA and the sport go from strength-to-strength now this new structure is in place.”

Details of the vote can be found on the WPBSA website here.
